The Ronin is similar to other 3-axis gimbals on the market but with DJI’s experience with their airborne stabilisers they have created a system that has powerful motors and advanced algorithms putting world-class precision in your hands. Not only can the Ronin take heavier cameras but it is quicker to setup as well.
Once your camera is configured, the Ronin can be ready to shoot in as little as 5 minutes, saving time and increasing efficiency on set. The built-in ATS (Auto Tune Stability) technology intelligently tunes Ronin to your camera rig at the touch of a button. What makes the Ronin so quick to setup is the ability to make adjustments without any tools.
Some the more notable advantages with the DJI Ronin is the ease that you can switch between underslung mode, upright mode & then to go through tight spaces like doorways with briefcase mode.
It can take heavy payloads, for example a common shooting kit that we shoot with on wet hire is:
- Red Epic Dragon (with extra long super flexible EVF / LCD cable)
- Schneider PL Xenon primes
- Bright Tangerine Misfit Mattebox
- 4 x V-Lock Batteries
- Cinemilled extension arms (allowing v-lock and mattebox)
- RT Motion wireless follow focus
- Paralinx Arrow +
- Easyrig 3.0 with Serene arm
We include quite a lot of extras with our DJI Ronin kit that other rental companies do not provide.
The Ronin can work with any of the cameras that we currently have on hire; Red Epic Dragon, Red Scarlet Dragon, Blackmagic Pocket Camera and Canon 7D.
If you have not filmed with a 3-axis gimbal before we advice you have a day of prep to become accustom with it. Get your balance settings ready before the shoot. This will enable a super quick turnaround time from getting the case out, attaching the camera and ready to shoot.
If you are going for long handheld takes then we recommend hiring our EasyRig 3.0 with Serena arm that will take away strain on arms and further stabiliser vertical movements which can occur when walking.
